Listed below are modern design possibilities that allow you to create a unique look to your home. Whether you use roof tiles as the preferred material, or in a combination below, Bristile Roofing™ products allow you to create a look and feel that will remain for many years to come.
Tile colour and profiles
Recent years have seen a shift in consumer preference from the traditional shaped profiles such as the Hacienda Profile featured in the Designer and Traditional Ranges to flat, minimalist roofing products such as Lodge and Yeoman profiles in the Prestige and Classic Range.
Shaped profiles are a great option for home buyers aiming to create a traditional look for their homes. These profiles have been the most commonly found tiles on Australian roofs and have been attributed to classic house designs that weather the test of time. .
Flat profiles have become the tile of choice for architects, building designers and specifiers due to their ability to complement contemporary house designs. Increasingly contemporary house designs integrated minimalist building materials in composite facade systems that collaborate to give homes a distinctive presence in the streetscape.
Bristile Roofing™ offers a range of profiles to suit a number of different house styles. The most commonly used profile on Australian roofs is the hacienda profile seen in the traditional and designer ranges. This shaped profile features a roll in the centre of the tile and at the right and left sides which creates a rolling finish to the roof.
Of the flat profiles the Lodge profile, a sleek flat tile, has enjoyed continual popularity since its release due to the distinctive roof line it creates.
Render and brick combinations
We have witnessed a step away from the full rendered house to a combination façade of face bricks with highlights in render – such as porticos, balconies and columns in neutral and muted tones. This is a fantastic way to make a statement in a more low maintenance way than a full render, whilst maintaining the warmth and architectural features that only a face brick can deliver.
Bricks used in this scenario tend be darker tones as they create more of a contrast to the lighter tones used in the render. Ranges such as Elements, Burlesque and Symmetry are perfect for this use.
An alternative to render is the use of the Austral Bricks™ Colourbrick range. Colourbrick achieves a similar look to render without any of the maintenance issues.
Mix and match brick combinations
We have seen an exciting and dramatic return to mixing brick combinations in commercial developments, and this trend has definitely hit its mark in the residential market.
Instead of using render to highlight feature areas, lighter, neutral toned bricks have the same effect without the ongoing maintenance.
Strong, bold and bright brick colours are also emerging as a favoured material for feature areas. Austral Bricks™ Burlesque range of full glazed bricks is proving popular as a façade feature that creates a striking look when combined with other brick combinations.
The use of bricks within the same range to keep a consistent feel to the home is also very popular. Instead of using a strong, dark brick, the use of a light brick combined with a moderate colour also works well. An example of this is the Urban One Silver mixed with the Urban One Macadamia. Stone cladding with Litestone™
The textural feature of stone cladding is still extremely popular, adding another dimension to any home. The horizontal lines of Austral Bricks™ “LITESTONE™” enhance the clean lines of any brickwork whilst adding depth and texture to further enhance your home’s façade.
Stone cladding looks fantastic in contemporary designs when incorporated into columns or any architectural element. It also works equally well in heritage or more traditional designs.
It works extremely well when being used for a feature wall in an entrance foyer, or around a fireplace to give that extra “wow” factor.
Terracotta facade - Terracade™
Terracade™ is a terracotta facade developed exclusively by Austral Bricks™ for use in both commercial and residential applications.
Terracade™ is a very modern product that was more commonly used in commercial design but is quickly being adopted for applications by progressive architects in residential applications. The clean, tile-like lines, colour fastness and outstanding maintenance qualities mean this exciting new product – made of traditional terracotta allows you to add a design element to your home that makes it stand out.
Terracade™ is being used on front façades, feature architectural panels and walling options in the residential market. The colour scheme of Terracade™ lends itself beautifully to the current and emerging colour trends and mixes very well with other materials including brick.
